Nice weather The trip on the Kiwi bus now starts proper with me travelling for a week down from Auckland (North of North Island) down to Wellington (South of the South Island). We weave our way through the island and have the opportunity to do various activities and walks. Today we are travelling down to Mercury Bay or Whitianga. The scenery is rugged and there are many small forests of ferns and hardwood trees littering the sides of mountains. There are also many, many, many dairy farms. I'm quite surprised by the number of farms they have on this part of the island.
We stop quite regularly and are newer more than 1.5 hours on the coach. We stop for lunch, breaks etc and everyone on the coach is quite up beat. Our first and really only stop is to the Cathedral caves. Its absolutely bucketing down outside as we make our way down the many steps to the beach. Half way down i say sod this and head to a smaller cove with some half decent views. We were due to stop and dig our own hot pools to bathe in but the weather was just too bad.
The rest of the day is pretty much travelling and at the end of the day we have cut across the top of the North Island to the Corondel coast. I was a bit hesitant in booking with the Kiwi bus due to things i heard about it but it seems to be going okay. There are a few people on the bus that are travelling independently and everyone seems to be mingling quite well....
